On November 27, 2010, the OVPDC held the last of it's field training days for 2010. This video offers up a demonstration of some of the club members working with their dogs in the field, focusing on bird searches, pointing and retrieving.  The dogs featured in the video are:

  • Dynata's bound to raise the bar, FDJ, NA pz. 1 (Dash): 18 month old Hungarian Vizsla owned by Rachel Delaney
  • Drumming Woods Dzar Nicolas, FD, NA pz.1 (Nick): 17 month old Brittany Spaniel owned by Dianne and Lincoln Faulkner
  • Windagale's Stillwood Stella, FD (Stella): 10 year old Brittany Spaniel owned by Dianne and Lincoln Faulkner
  • Ataboy's Snake Charmer (Libby), FDJ, CGC, OTD Member: Brittany Spaniel, owned by Patricia and Brad Bezaire
  • Bravepoint Terra Nova , NA pz. 1 (Murphy): 2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer owned by Kyla and Blair Carroll
  • Ataboy's The New Sheriff in Town (Sawyer): Brittany Spaniel owned by Patricia and Brad Bezaire

From April to November (with a break in the fall for hunting season) club members get together once a month to work on different field skills with their dogs; introducing puppies to birds, bird searches on land and in water, pointing, retrieving on land and in water, tracking, obedience in the field, etc.  The training days offer an opportunity to prepare the dogs for field tests and, of course, for hunting season.  The training days also offer an opportunity for the human members of the club to socialize, share stories and training tips.  In the winter months, indoor training days are held to work on basic obedience skills and members are often treated to guest lectures on a variety of topics, not just related to field training.
